NEW CLASS - IMBEDDEDtexture • DECORATIVEfunction
Fee: $48. Instructions will post on Feb. 20th by 2pm
This is a workshop that encourages you to let go and teaches you to work both intuitively and aesthetically. Fold, spindle and mutilate (in the best of ways) your clay surface to create a multi-dimensional and totally engaging surface, that you will then take a step further and slump, fold, build decorative forms to live with!! Platters, vessels, wall tiles.... your textured surface will have many ways to go! Examples of a variety of handle and foot additions will be demonstrated so you can take your piece to the next level.
Video will demonstrate imbedding process for layering textures, selecting areas of your clay surface to create slumped, formed and pressed decorative pieces such as plates, bowls & hollow weed pot forms. Pieces are finished with a blackwash (also shown in video) after drying / or firing, giving you an end product that is powerful in black and white!! also, PDF file showing selected stills throughout the process with text instruction.
THIS CLASS IS CONSIDERED INTERMEDIATE IN SKILL LEVEL, classes that will add to your experience with this class are:
Make your own clay stamps (providing you with additional texture sources and experience ,
low-relief Dove tiles, (experience with flat slab work and texture)
Clay rattles (experience forming hollow vessel forms),
Impressionable Tiles (experience in texture printing on clay surfaces)
IT IS NOT MANDATORY THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN THESE OTHER SUGGESTED CLASSES, JUST POINTING OUT SOME CLASSES THAT THIS WILL BUILD ON.

Most of the workshops that I put together are suitable for beginners and up. If you've never touched clay you may want to join in on the Hand-building 101, which is FREE. It will give you the basics of hand-building and walk you through some simple projects to try.
2010 will bring new classes that build on the base of instruction provided in the minishop classes as well as other classes that were offered in 2009, this doesn't mean you have to have taken any one class before another, just that I will be adding a bit more challenge and allowing your experience with one class to build and inform the other. This may mean that I am not covering certain basic techniques from a "0 Knowledge" perspective, if you are not sure about a class and your own personal level of expereince -- please email me and ask.
I strive to put together workshops that are geared for success, and give you something to be proud of. Most of all, I feel my job as an instructor is to instill PERMISSION to all of my students, permission to create, to experience, experiment, and to be excited about the medium of clay! Check out the sub-page under Workshops:
videoINTRO for a little look at different workshops and the pieces that you can make there!!

You can work with a variety of clays, all getting the same great results!! AIR DRY SCULPTING CLAY, AIR DRY PAPER CLAY, POLYMER CLAY (if you know it, I don't teach polymer techniques) and of course REGULAR STONEWARE CLAYS (remember these need firing, so you will need access to a kiln)
All workshops will remain open to new members indefinitely, meaning you can join any workshop at any time, even after it's posted start date and participate in that project. All pdf instructions, videos, and student conversations will always be available to you in the workshop post. And, you can always ask me for assistance if you need it.
To join a workshop group: click on the workshop of your choice, request to join, I will then invoice you through paypal and once your payment is received you will receive an email inviting you into the group.
DO IT!! Pick a workshop that interests you and give it a try, they are great fun, and easy to do!! You may be surprised just how addicting clay can be!!!
